Place Ste-Foy’s readjustment

LemayMichaud was mandated by Ivanhoe Cambridge for the redevelopment and renovation of the facades and interior common areas of Place Ste-Foy shopping mall.

The mandate included the design of new facades to accommodate new businesses on Laurier Boulevard; the revision of entrances on Bernardin Morin, as well as of the entrances and facades of the shops overlooking the parking located at the intersection of Robert-Bourassa and Hochelaga; the interior design of existing and new malls that included the design of the common area furniture, all customer service areas, the administrative offices, the food court including a few franchises, restrooms and nursing room.

The architectural design guidelines prescribed the use of a formal, clean and resolutely modern language, as well as the objective to bring coherence to the architectural ensemble, especially to the Laurier facade. Moreover, in order to meet the client’s requirements and his desire to provide a distinctive and high-quality experience to his clientele, the chosen materials had to bring a modern and timeless look, with a touch of refinement.

The result is an architectural composition of linear geometric shapes in a neutral palette of gray and white, and the use of a mix of materials composed of St. Mark’s stone, fibrocement panels and brick. The windows and storefront openings are generous and help energize the public pathways by providing glimpses of the activity of the shopping centre. Thus, the property has been updated within the city’s landscape and the overall architecture has been rendered more uniform and made coherent.

The same guidelines were applied to the design and the interiors: the use of neutral tones of white, black and gray, peppered with rich accents of natural walnut. The clean lines give a contemporary signature to the spaces and meet the client’s goal to offer a renewed shopping experience to its customers. The addition of skylights allowed the spaces to be bathed in natural light. Thus, the interiors are elegant, distinctive and more modern.
